Bayonetta 3: Release Date, Leaks, Platforms, Trailer, and More

May 11, 2022: Nintendo has confirmed Bayonetta is still on track for a 2022 release.

Outside of re-releases and Super Smash Bros, Bayonetta hasn't been seen since 2014, but the third game has already been announced. Unveiled back in 2017 at The Game Awards, we didn't receive new information for several years.

Until September 2021, that is, where a Nintendo Direct presentation gave us further details about this anticipated sequel, including a fresh trailer and a new release window. For now, here’s everything we know about this upcoming sequel.

Nintendo's Investor Reports recently came out, and despite ongoing issues thanks to the chip shortage for hardware, they have reiterated that Bayonetta 3 will be out in 2022. There isn't a date given, though.

Nintendo has confirmed a new Direct presentation airs tomorrow on February 9. Scheduled to kick off at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10PM GMT / 11pm CET, that's expected to last for "roughly 40 minutes," focus on Switch games launching "in the first half of 2022."

While discussing new title Project G.G with VGC, Platinum Games' Hideki Kamiya noted that they've been quiet on Bayonetta 3 as the game is not being published by the team themselves. He explained:

"We don’t have that much say over projects that we’re not publishing. And we understand different titles require different approaches, so we respect the publisher’s decisions. So if there is a difference between what we want to do with Project G.G. versus what we normally do with our other titles, it’s not really a criticism for those publishers: we respect their approaches. But for this title especially, our approach as a company is that we’re hoping to be more open.

Bayonetta 3 Release Date

The last we heard about the game was in a Nintendo Direct back in February 2019. We learned that the game is still in development, but the team were not ready to show anything yet. Bayonetta will, allegedly, be released in 2022.

Bayonetta 3 Platforms

While the original Bayonetta initially launched for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Nintendo took over publishing duties from Sega for Bayonetta 2, seeing it become a Nintendo Wii U exclusive. As Nintendo are also publishing Bayonetta 3, that'll be a Switch exclusive too.
